Drawing on the expertise of the Andrew Simpson Foundation as the delivery partner, the pilot project will offer RYA Level 1 and Level 2 courses in Portsmouth, Plymouth and Faslane to some 100 adults this year.

Deirdre Mills, Director, Greenwich Hospital, commented:

"Greenwich Hospital supports the wellbeing of the entire Naval family and by funding the 'Go Sailing' initiative, we get to broaden the reach of this programme by offering partners an exciting opportunity to learn to sail. Our funding will help develop new skills and resilience for participants while fostering connections and ties within the Royal Navy community."

Philip Warwick, Chief Executive Officer, RNSA, commented:

"We are absolutely thrilled to be expanding the opportunity to learn to sail to include the partners of serving personnel.  It is great to support families at a time when the Royal Navy is so busy and the demands on those supporting our Sailors at home are so great.  ‘Go Sailing’ is the chance to learn new transferable skills through a shared experience afloat and is a real win. We look forward to making this new project a huge success."

Sail Together

This exciting programme is designed to help families enjoy the many benefits of sailing.  There are four dedicated projects that introduce and develop sailing skills for serving RN, RM and RFA personnel and their families.

  • RNSA 'Youth Crew' for under 17’s.
  • RNSA 'Go Sailing' for partners of serving personnel.
  • 'RNSA Sailing Club' to help consolidate skills learned on RYA dinghy courses.
  • 'RNSA Family Sailing Days' will allow families to sail together.

Sailing together as a family, as friends, as a Naval community offers a shared experienced, a chance to try something new, an opportunity to have fun and above all, the vehicle to help build lifetime skills and friendships.  RNSA is all about making sailing accessible and enjoyable, and we are most grateful to our members, funders, partners, volunteers and supporters who make this possible.
