Greenwich Hospital has awarded a £24,509 grant to the Hospital of Sir John Hawkins to fund essential fire safety improvements, helping to ensure that residents from the Armed Forces veteran community continue to benefit from safe, secure and high-quality accommodation with a historic building.
The funding has supported the installation of a comprehensive fire alarm system, together with fire compartmentation and fireproofing measures throughout the accommodation. These improvements will strengthen the building's fire protection and help ensure the Hospital continues to provide a secure environment for those who call it home.
Founded in the 16th century, the Hospital of Sir John Hawkins has a long and proud history of providing Almshouse accommodation for retired Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their spouses in Chatham, Kent. Today, it continues to offer affordable, independent living for those who have served and need affordable housing.
The investment reflects Greenwich Hospital's commitment to supporting organisations that provide safe, sustainable housing for members of the Royal Navy community. The grant reflects Greenwich Hospital's continued commitment to investing in organisations that provide practical, long-term support for serving and former Royal Navy personnel and their families, strengthening services that support the wellbeing of the Royal Navy community.
